Visitors flock to the city of Thaliost in the days leading up to the Grand Day of Exaltation. The populace of the city doubles during this time. Peddlers and vendors fill the streets, selling traditional Thaliost food (anchovy skewers, jubilee pie, honeyflakes, yonder tarts, and other regional delicacies). Family banners and provincial flags drape the sides of most buildings. Taverns offer themed food and drinks, with varying bars adopting well-known nobles from the history of the empire as their mascot or patron.
Along with the festivities is a noteworthy moment for the empire: the imperial senate is poised to hold a historic vote to end primogeniture. The potential end of the millennia-standing law of succession. The law (if passed) will pave the way for Princess Eutropia to ascend to the throne. Traditionalist believe that the vote would only cause chaos and scandal, allowing ill-deserving women to inherit family power.
WORD ON THE STREETThe Grand Day of Exaltation is an exciting time in the city. With so many far-flung visitors, rumors about any and all subjects fly fast and loose. With a successful DC 15 Diplomacy check to gather information, a PC can learn one of the rumors circulating around the streets.
